Spring Has Sprung

The weather is finally changing, lighter mornings and longer evening. This is great for our residents and we are hoping the weather will soon heat up and allow our residents to go out and spend some quality time in the garden. We are so lucky here at Struan Lodge, our gardens are located right next to the local nature walk and golf course, meaning our residents can spend hours looking out at the local wild life. From blue tits nesting, robins sitting on our wall paying us all a visit, squirrels and rabbits to name a few of our furry and feathered friends, the tunes and whistles from the birds can be quite magical and relaxing.

Our gardens are also coming to life and we are very proud of our magnolia bush which is situated in the middle of our lawn in our front garden. Magnolias are one of the oldest flowering plants on Earth, dating back to over 100 million years ago! They are named after the French botanist Pierre Magnol, who studied them extensively in the 17th century. Beetles pollinate magnolias, not bees, this is because they evolved before bees and have tough petals and carpels to resist insect bites.
