At Struan Lodge, we began the month of August with a breathtaking rickshaw ride with Lissa near the golf course.

The outdoor rickshaw ride was taken place to get some sunshine and fresh air for the residents. It’s always nice to go out in the sun for a small ride with friends and family.

Barrie was excited to take the rickshaw ride and he thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Ann enjoyed the evening walks near the golf course. Margaret and Ena enjoyed their knitting time in the activity room and we also had a baking session where residents baked and decorated cakes, the perfect accompaniment with a cup of tea.

Residents had a go at beach ball hockey which was great fun and helped get residents moving and use their hand-eye coordination.

Throughout August residents have enjoyed the 50s sing-along with Ross Jamieson and looking forward to more sing-alongs as it takes them back to the good old days.

We also had sensory activities involving fruit tasting to stimulate the taste buds, identifying faces to help with cognitive recognition and arts & crafts to help with imagination and motor skills. Reading and knitting clubs have been very active throughout the month.

Providing a diverse range of activities at Struan Lodge Care Home in Edinburgh benefits our residents' mental, physical, and social well-being. Activities that stimulate residents' cognitive functions, such as puzzles, games, and creative arts & crafts encourage mental engagement, memory recall, and problem-solving skills, contributing to overall mental health.

Regular exercise, yoga sessions, and gentle movement promote physical strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health, and help to boost residents' energy levels and confidence in their bodies.

Group activities provide opportunities for residents to interact, forge friendships, and combat feelings of isolation. We believe social engagement is vital for mental health, as it reduces negative feelings and provides a sense of belonging and purpose.

Within our activities programme, we are mindful of resident's preferences and abilities, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all. We want to provide residents with opportunities where they can learn, grow, and find joy in shared experiences.

Lots of fun-filled games and activities have taken place this month and there is lots more planned for the upcoming weeks. There's never a dull moment here at Struan Lodge.
