Our Festive Gingerbread House Competition

Struan Lodge Spreads Festive Cheer with a Gingerbread House Competition

At Struan Lodge, we recently brought the Christmas spirit to life with our Gingerbread House Competition. The event saw plenty of hot competition, creativity, and good old-fashioned teamwork, as staff showed off their baking and decorating skills while residents enjoyed the all-important job of judging.

The competition was a chance for everyone to let their imaginations run wild, and the results were simply brilliant. Staff members worked hard to create some truly stunning gingerbread houses, each one with its own personality and charm. From snowy rooftops and twinkling lights to colourful sweeties and playful little details like penguins and snowmen, every house brought something special to the table. One even had a tiny ice pond with little Lego figures fishing—what a treat for the judges!

Our residents took their role as judges very seriously, carefully inspecting each house before picking their winner. It was a close competition, but in the end, our home manager Kieran was crowned the victor. A huge well done to Kieran and everyone who took part! Visitors to the home also got involved, casting their votes and adding to the fun of the day.

Of course, it wasn’t just about the competition. The whole event was about bringing people together, sharing some joy, and having a bit of fun. The staff loved the chance to get creative and enjoy a light-hearted activity, and for the residents, it was a wonderful opportunity to feel involved and connected. Watching everyone laughing, chatting, and admiring the gingerbread houses was a lovely reminder of what makes our home so special—our sense of family and community.

There were even extra treats on the day, with some staff baking extra gingerbread for everyone to enjoy. And enjoy them we did—they were absolutely delicious!

It’s amazing how something as simple as a gingerbread house can bring so much happiness. Events like these are more than just a bit of festive fun; they’re a chance to lift everyone’s spirits, boost confidence, and remind us of the importance of working together. For our residents, being part of the judging gave them a real sense of purpose, while the staff got to enjoy a bit of friendly competition and to show off some creative skills we don't see every day.

At Struan Lodge, we’re always looking for ways to make our home feel just that—like a home. The Gingerbread House Competition was the perfect way to celebrate the season and have a laugh together. The houses will stay on display for everyone to enjoy over the festive period, and they’re already sparking plenty of smiles and conversations, particularly about how one even has tiny fairy lights inside!

A big thank you to everyone who took part—whether you baked, judged, or voted, you helped make the day a real success. We’re already looking forward to next year—so get those ideas ready! Until then, if you'd like to see what other activities we enjoy here at Struan Lodge please get in touch and we'd be happy to show you around.
