Meet our Head of Wellbeing – Arlo

Arlo

Both the staff and residents are delighted to introduce our brand new Head of Wellbeing, Arlo the long-haired Daschund.

Arlo has been an absolute delight to have around the home recently, being very attentive to our residents and staff and putting a smile on their faces.

We were keen to introduce a pet to the home, as we have seen the great benefits that our previous pet therapy sessions have had on our residents. We are very fortunate that Arlo, who belongs to a member of our team's family, will be making a regular appearance at the home.

There are multiple advantages to having a pet such as a cat or a dog present in a care home, from improving moods and providing residents with companionship and affection to evoking special memories of previous pets they shared with their families. This in particular is a positive way of unlocking memories for our residents living with dementia or Alzheimers.

One thing for certain is that Arlo has already had a wonderful impact on everybody here at Struan Lodge Care Home in Edinburgh and we are very excited to make many more memories with him as a home.

We also look forward to holding more pet therapy sessions with our residents in the future, where they can interact with other animals such as cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and many more.
